I had never been to California, so of course as I expected, I fell in love with Cali. While we were there I was able to set aside some time to fit in a gorgeous engagement shoot in Pasadena. Meet Kelly and Ricky! It was such a beautiful day for an engagement session at the Jacksonville Zoo! After the zoo, we stopped by one of my secret spots under a bridge then we were off to the gorgeous Big Talbot Island State Park to shoot the final photos on Blackrock Beach. We were pretty much eaten alive by the mosquitoes and gnats but the awesome sunset tones were so worth it!

St. Augustine Engagement Photography // Morgan & Matt ENGAGED!

Congrats Morgan and Matt on your engagement!

We traveled to the gorgeous historic downtown St. Augustine, Florida. After getting caught in the awful downpour on I-95 on the way there, I was pretty happy to arrive downtown to clearing skies. The clearing dark overcast actually gave the photos a cool dreamy-like, (sort of) vintage cast. I loved all the tints of blue tones! A totally different look than the usual bright and sunny St. Augustine photography. Love it!

AND the moon was so big and bright! Of course I had to do some cool stuff with that bad boy in the background!

Thanks Morgan and Matt for being such troopers in the unpredictable weather and sitting in the wet grass... =)

You'll be seeing these two again when I shoot their wedding in March at the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine, Florida.

1. So how is BGB different than other boudoir photographers?

BAD GIRL Boudoir has a unique style of photography: edgy boudoir with a splash of pin-up and glamour! These are the kind of photos your man really wants to see...a sexy, confident, super hot woman!

My staff and I also want you to enjoy your whole experience! We are young, hip and personable ladies who want you to feel like you are just hanging out with some girlfriends, letting us doll you up, and playing dress up in outfits you don't get to wear everyday. :D

Another important thing that is special about BGB, is that our packages include a disc of your photos along with personal-use printing rights. Most photographers charge you a session fee, then you have to buy individual prints for additional charges. With BGB's packages, I allow you to use your files for your own personal use-- print as many as you'd like, from whatever printer you'd like.

2. I’ve booked my session, now what?

After you schedule a session, we will email you a Pre-Shoot Questionnaire and more information on how to prepare for your session and secure your appointment date with your deposit. It is $50.00 (or $100 depending on the package) up front to reserve your date. We ask that you send this asap or within a few days to ensure your date is reserved for you. We book up months in advance certain times of the year, so it is important to secure your date. Other clients may be inquiring about the same date as you. The Pre-Shoot Questionnaire will give us a better idea on what you are envisioning for your shoot. It also allows you to let us know of any other questions or concerns you may have.

3. Can you walk me through a typical shoot?

When you arrive for your photoshoot, we will greet you with a tour of the different BGB sets and show you all our shoes, accessories, Peep Show book samples, Calendars, etc. Then we want to see all the goodies you brought! We'll go through and pick out the which outfit you will wear with what set. Next we'll get you all dolled up, doing your hair and makeup.

Once you are all glamorous, we will begin your first set. We'll have a quick posing and facial expression lesson, and I'll act out some of the poses for you. We'll do some test shots and I'll show you the photos on the back of the camera so you can see how you're doing (I'll be coaching you throughout the shoot so don't worry).

You'll notice I take a ton of shots during your shoot. The slightest change in your pose, facial expression, my angle, how I'm cropping the photo, etc, changes the photo completely. I like to have plenty of photos to choose from when your photos go through post production, that way we are bound to get some spectacular shots! Sometimes even the lighting test shots end up being really great because you're just practicing and you don't feel as much pressure, so you look more relaxed and natural. We'll do several different poses in each set, then we'll move on to another set with a different outfit. You'll have a blast and you'll be pleasantly surprised with how well you can work it!

4. What’s your policy on nudity and privacy?

This is something we address with each client personally in the Pre-Shoot Questionnaire. Your session will be shot entirely at your comfort level. You can reveal nothing, a little or a lot. However, we absolutely do not shoot any porn-like or graphic images. Any photo involving nudity is posed, stylized and edited as a fine art nude portrait. We respect everyone’s privacy and understand that these are very personal images. We will not display your photos anywhere, online or printed, unless you agree to sign our model release.

5. Do you only do studio sessions?

Along with our studio boudoir and studio pin-up sessions, we also offer on-location boudoir sessions.

If you would rather us come to you, we can shoot your session in the comfort of your home. We will bring some of our equipment to be able to capture you in your own personal environment. These sessions are normally shot using more natural light, rather than all studio lights. It creates a more photojournalistic and sensual look.

Sessions can also be shot in a gorgeous, local locations such as the beach at sundown. These are perfect if you want a more exotic-location feel to your photos. Most clients wear sexy swimsuits and accessories for these sessions.

6. What do I bring to wear?

Bring any style of lingerie or cute clothes you like. We have some accessories, shoes and jewelry but it is always good to bring your own wardrobe so we know everything fits properly. We don’t care if you bring a suitcase full of clothes! We can help you pick out the hottest outfits.

Full-Figured Ladies: Some of our full-figured clients have asked us how they can hide or down-play their tummy areas, so we always suggest playing up other areas (boobies! push-up bra ladies!) while wearing lingerie dresses to down-play the tummy area. We suggest trying some black lace babydoll dresses!-- super sexy! Corsets are also a hot choice!

7. How long will the session take?

Depending on the package you choose, and including your hair and makeup, the whole session will take about 2-3 hours. Why so long? It takes time for hair and makeup, changing outfits in between changing sets, plus the lighting setup and rearranging. It may also take you a little while to relax. Most clients aren't used to lounging around in front of a camera wearing skimpy clothing, so your first few shots may look a bit stiff and "deer in headlights" as I call it. (I'll help you with this and you'll get more comfortable, I promise!)

8. What is the turn-around time to get my photos and peep show book?

After your shoot it will take about 3-4 weeks for your photos and book to be complete. If you are trying to get everything done by a certain date, please let us know so we can schedule you with plenty of time. We prefer to schedule you way ahead of time so we can spend the fair amount of time on the retouching of your photos and layout of your book.

If your package includes a product, such as the Peep Show Book, or if you'd like to add on a calendar, you will get to proof the layout and photo selection before it goes to print. We want you to absolutely LOVE your book, so we want you to be involved in the process!

9. Am I going to love every single photo?

It is unrealistic to think that you will love every single final photo. Remember that everyone is their own worst critic and others may not see what you see. As an artist I have specifically chosen each photo for a reason. Our goal is to end up with a reasonable amount of photos that you absolutely love!

10. I’m nervous!

You’ll be nervous at first and feel awkward, but I promise you it gets easier as we go along. We’ll coach you through poses and the process. Don’t worry about any areas that you feel insecure about, we’ll discuss with you how we will disguise those areas when you arrive at your appointment.

Feel free to have a friend come along (with a little bubbly if you want) to help you feel comfortable. No men or children please!

11. I’m not a model, I've never done anything like this before...

Almost all of our clients are just everyday women with no modeling experience. A lot of our clients have never even worn false eyelashes before. When you arrive for your shoot we'll go over some important things about posing and facial expressions. And I'll coach you along the shoot and show you some of the photos on the back of my camera so you can see how you're doing. I'll teach you what poses flatter your body type and tricks on how to exaggerate and enhance different areas of your body.

12. Do you retouch out any blemishes and/or skin imperfections?

Yes. I'm a chick so 90% of the time I'm going to know what you want fixed. Each chosen photo is carefully enhanced and retouched when it goes through post-production. Our editing style is modern pinup, but we don't want you to look like plastic or overdone. But, you will look absolutely flawless! And most importantly, we want the photos to still look like you! Just let us know if you have any specific requests (example: tattoo/scar removal).

13. I'd like to have a big photoshoot party for my bachelorette party...

What is Boudoir Photography?

The word Boudoir came from 18th century France meaning "a woman's bedroom or a private suite." Typical boudoir photos are taken in an intimate settings such as a bedroom or hotel room. BGB's twist on Boudoir photography is to shoot in a sexy studio set or outdoors in an exotic location, with an added flare of fashion or theme to the mix.

Congrats to Amber & Justin!!! Their book is the latest Engagement Signature Book design!

Amber and Justin live in Virginia but decided to get married here on the beach in Florida!! They had a friend shoot these engagement photos and then they hired me to enhance the photos and design their guest signature book. The best part was that the book was a surprise for the wedding day! I couldn't post anything about it until after their wedding. No one knew about it, not even Amber's twin sister! How cute is that? haha.

And congrats to Amber and Justin, they tied the knot this past Friday! And the book was a huge hit! A lot of their guests actually contacted me on Facebook telling me how great the book was!

I love these books so much! They are something you can cherish for a lifetime!

Wondering how you should prepare for your boudoir photo session?

Most women don’t have freak of nature bodies like a super model but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have gorgeous, sexy photos as well. A good photographer will know just how to highlight your assets best while disguising the parts of you that you’re self conscious about.

“What should I wear for my boudoir shoot?”

You should wear something that you feel comfortable in! If you are thinking about wearing sexy lingerie, we suggest looking at lingerie retailers, such as Victoria’s Secret and Fredrick’s of Hollywood. You can even sometimes find decent lingerie at Ross and Marshalls if you don’t want to spend a lot. Bring a variety of outfits, jewelry and shoes, we’ll help style you with your wardrobe and ours to make you a supermodel!

What you can expect:

• You will be nervous at first, but it will get easier as it goes on.

• BGB will professionally coach you through poses in a private and comfortable environment.

• BGB will choose the poses that will flatter your body type. Though you may not love every shot, our goal is to have an outcome of a reasonable amount of boudoir shots that you love.

• Boudoir does not neccessarily mean lingerie shots. BGB will be able to make you look sexy in whatever you chose to wear. The shoot will remain at your comfort level.

• Your photos will remain private for you or you and your hubby unless you sign a model release for BGB to show off your photos in our Gallery.

• Have a SUPERMODEL experience you will never forget!

I’d also like to point out again that it is not necessary to wear lingerie for your boudoir session. A lot of women love the look of sexy, edgy outfits that resemble fashion from a magazine like Vogue.

If this is a gift for your fiancé/husband/boyfriend, then bring something from his wardrobe. This can be one of his favorite ties, a button down shirt, a sports jersey, hunting gear, or his uniform. Anything that makes the images more personal and sexy to him!

Saks Fifth Avenue Fashion Show at Palencia Country Club, St. Augustine, Florida

The Bunny Experiment Series // Conceptual Photography

These are a throw-back from one of my favorite conceptual series I shot. This series is called "The Bunny Experiment" in which I photographed the bunny in unusual and unexpected places, which some turned out to look pretty creepy. It was so much fun to shoot!

It was funny, at one point we went to a park where there were a few kids playing... and of course they all ran up to him, haha. I said to my assistant in the suit, "Remember, don't you dare take the head off, omg, the kids will be traumatized...And the parents will probably kill us!"

What Is A Boudoir Session? // Boudoir sessions are tasteful photos that hint at sexiness. However, every person has their own idea of what sexy is as well as what they are comfortable with.

Body Image and Weight // Most women (myself included) don’t have bodies like a super model but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have gorgeous, sexy photos as well. A good photographer will know just how to highlight your assets best while disguising the parts of you that you’re self conscious about. Just remember… your significant other loves you just the way you are.

Clothing Choices // Fashion inspired – Your sexiest outfits. Career inspired – Business Suits, Police Uniforms, Firefighter Turnouts, Doctor Coats, Construction Belts, etc. 40s Pinup is really popular too.

Bring clothing that you feel sexy and beautiful in. Bras, panties, corsets, teddies, stockings, tank tops, booty shorts, sports jerseys & men’s business shirts are all popular. Don’t forget to bring accessories for each of your outfits as well as your sexiest shoes.

Hair // Wearing hair down is always best for this type of shoot. Because you will be moving around so much and laying on your back, holding your head up by your hand (which puts your hand in your hair), it's always best to wear it down so you are not constantly fixing it during the shoot.

Makeup // I encourage all of my models to go a bit heavier on your foundation, powder, bronzer, and blush. You'll also need your powder throughout the day to reduce the shine that develops as we work. Additionally, I suggest that you go very heavy and dark on the lids of your eyes and either do light liner or no liner at all on the lower lid. Heavier than usual on the mascara is always good too. Lastly bring several different shades of lipstick; dark mattes, frosts, and glosses are the best.

Glam Photoshoot in St. Augustine, Florida

This was so much fun!! I had the opportunity to attend a photography workshop with Studio Styles in St. Augustine, Florida. First, all the other photographers and I set out into the streets of downtown St. Augustine around St. George Street to capture great shots of these lovely models against the quaint buildings. Then, we headed over to a horse farm near World Golf Village. It was so beautiful there! And last, we headed out to Vilano Beach to shoot the models at sunset. What a long day! But totally worth it! Thank you to all the models, you guys did great!

Third Place in the 2010 Corporate 5K Run T-shirt Design Contest // Jacksonville, Florida Graphic Designer

Yaaaaaaaaay! I won 3rd place in the T-Shirt Design Contest for the annual Corporate 5K Run in Downtown Jacksonville. And I received this snazzy plaque!

The Corporate Run/Walk, which attracts over 3,000 participants, is a 5K run/walk open to employees of corporations, government agencies, financial institutions, and individuals.

WOW talk about GORGEOUS wedding!!! Congratulations Sherrie and David!! Their big day was held at the breath-taking riverfront Winterbourne Inn in Orange Park, Florida.

Sherrie and David were great- they wanted to try all kinds of cool shots. After the ceremony when we were about to shoot the couple's romance shots, the sun went behind some clouds and the wind picked up, making for some really cool dramatic portraits on the river's edge. The rough water and cloudy horizon made for some pretty powerful and intense-looking love photos. They had so much chemistry! And Sherrie's beautiful magenta bouquet complimented the deep blue tones in the portraits. Ah I love it! I absolutely love the dreamy and romantic mood shots!

I highly recommend Winterbourne Inn if you are looking for a somewhat small, charming and romantic venue with a breath-taking view on the St. John's River. And flowers are everywhere!

So I've been doing a lot of graphic design work lately for the fab guys of Last Place Winners. They first hired me to shoot their promo photos for their new mixtape album and websites [see the photos here], and they have a lot of shows coming up this spring so they hired me on to design their next two show flyers.

I designed the first flyer keeping in mind their style and feeling of their music. I wanted to make it bright and contrasty, so it is like BAM - in your face. But yet graphically appealing [does that make sense? haha].

The second flyer is for the huge mixtape release party in Downtown Jacksonville. Its gonna be crazy- they've got all kinds of guest performers, raffle drawings, merchandise, and more - expect a packed house. The name of their mixtape is "Dollar and a Dream".. see the dollar bill...get it.... haha. But really it is more than that. I wanted this piece to be really unique to the typical flyers that you see for band concerts. Who isn't going to notice a large dollar bill??!!??!! The shape and the size really set it apart from the norm. And yes, it goes along with the Dollar and a Dream theme.

We shall see how well my designs do bringing in new fans for the guys. So come to the shows!

So omg wow. This place was soooo cool! It had such an eerie feeling to the whole place. A bit scary too... kinda reminded me of the movie Wrong Turn... like there were backwoods mutants that were going to come out of the planes chasing us - haha eeek. The locals call this place the "Airplane Graveyard"... There are actually like seven planes sitting around on this small property. They are old S-2 Tracker military planes. They were built in the 60s and early 70s for the military operations. They'd take off from aircraft carriers and perform off-shore reconnaissance. The owner kept these here to sell the parts. I also read that they have been here for about 15 years. See an article about it here. The graveyard is located in St. Augustine near the airport. You can actually see the planes from US 1 just driving by.

I had heard about this place before and even had seen some photos taken by other photographers here, but I never knew exactly where it was. Well, I did a bit of googling and asking around and I found it. So of course I HAD to go see it for myself! I brought my beautiful friend/fellow photographer Jen to help me out with the location test.

We snuck in through an opening in the fence. The property is actually pretty small and backs up to some neighbors houses and backyards. We were kind of creeped out for a few minutes because we saw a solid black cat walking up on the very top of one of the plane wings and then we noticed we were standing in a pile of ripped up animal fur! Something had gotten in a fight and lost a lot of skin and fur... yikes/creepy..

Anyway, the planes were awesome! Jen was a trooper-- she even crawled inside one of them! So many cool textures and angle opportunities. I would definately put this place as one of my top favorite locations to shoot! Sad part though, there was a big commercial for sale sign in front of the property. I know a lot of people would be sad to see this little piece of history go.

Bridal Portraits are a must-have for modern and tradional brides! These can be shot before or even after the wedding day. Most brides have them done weeks before-hand so they can get into full hair and makeup to give themselves a little preview of how everything will come together. It also gives me, the photographer, and the bride some time to get to know each other! This makes the wedding day way more easy and comfortable for the bride when it comes to being in front of a camera. I won't be a total stranger following you around all day snapping photos- haha.

Bridal Portraits are great no matter what style you choose! More tradional portraits are shot with studio lighting and backdrop (like photos above), and the more modern portraits are shot outdoor in various locations in romantic afternoon lighting. Some brides are afraid of getting their dress dirty so they opt for the studio session. However, some brides opt for more interesting settings outdoors and love the glow of the natural light. Whichever you choose, these portraits usually are the most loved and most talked about photos (the dress, duh!) in the whole wedding ordeal!

When you’re composing a great photograph, there are many aspects to keep in mind. In addition to light angle and quality, depth-of-field, and shutter speed, there are other elements that work to create a perfect composition--design elements.

People often ask what makes photography an art form. Well actually, design elements are found in every art picture. These design elements and principles include composition, line, shape, form (light & dark), color (hue, value, intensity, monochromatic, analogous, complementary, warm, cool), texture, unity, balance, positive & negative space, etc.

Effective images are those that command attention and communicate some feeling to an audience. Capturing a "feeling" and your viewers' attention is a demanding task that requires practice, experimentation and study. Studying the basic elements of visual design and understanding how they work play a huge role is designing a great photograph. Furthermore, how an audience responds to an image depends on their past experiences (memory), interests, and what it is that they are looking for. This is why the same picture often receives a variety of responses from different viewers. To create effective images a photographer must understand the way people respond to various kinds of visual organization. This involves learning the vocabulary of design, viewing examples of artwork that utilize effective design elements, and actively implementing components of design into the process of photography.

PHOTO ENHANCING & RETOUCHING - It's Art!

Digital photo enhancement and retouching is used by virtually all photographers these days. And I wanted to bring up how a lot of people don’t realize how much time us photographers spend in this post-production stage. DAYS and even WEEKS! We don’t just show up, take photos and we’re done…

You can see from the above photos that there is a lot of artistic thought that goes into photo enhancing. I think post-production is where the real art happens. Everyone would approach the retouching differently, with their style. Therefore, it is unique… an art piece. Think of the original photo as the blank canvas. The enhancement can take the photo in a lot of different directions. A lot of time is spent in bringing out the magic of the photo. But I still want it to look like you, just glamorized and artistic-i-fied HA. (Unless of course, the concept of the photo is to have it not look like you... like the vampire-looking photo above)

On the other end of digital retouching is the entertainment industry. I disagree with how they use digital retouching. I think they over-do it and give it a bad reputation. They use it create human perfection to sell magazines and things. Shrink the hip and take in the waist and enlarge the bust – for what? Wouldn’t they still sell magazines with the celebrities how they physically really are? Photo enhancing is cool, artistic and can sell magazines… so why alter the person so drastically? Is that art? I know everyone wants to look great in photos of themselves but geez… don’t you still want it to be you? What do you think?

Photo enhancing can be good and bad. Over-done is bad. I think viewers can’t relate with it as much. If its over-done, it can lose its humanly and raw feel. So keep that in mind when looking at photography… a lot of time and thought may have been put into that photo, from start to finish--- from viewing them through the viewfinder on the camera to staring at them for hours at the computer.

Now I’m not claiming that all photography is altered and enhanced on the computer. I’m just speaking for the above types and styles of photos.

What the heck do I wear for the engagement photography shoot???

Couples ask me all the time what they should wear for their engagement shoot. Well, really, whatever you want to! It is important to wear something that is "you"! *However* there are clothing tips you can follow to get better photos. Ya know, it would look kinda silly if one of you was super dressed up and the other was in very casual street clothes. True true. So, here are some tips to think about when picking out your wardrobe:

1. Bring 2-3 outfits to pick from. That way you will have some variety for the photos. Also, sometimes certain outfits look better in certain locations. Pick a variety of outfits ranging from dressy to street clothes.

2. Dress in the most "dressy" outfit first. It is easier to dress-down when on location than to dress up.

3. Remember you and your fiance will be together in the photos! So it is a good idea to kinda plan your different outfits together so they coordinate. If you don't want them to be super matchy matchy then I suggest wearing different shades of the same color. For example, if you are having your shoot out at the beach, she can wear a light green sundress and he could coordinate by wearing a dark green polo. Similar but not identical, ya know.

4. Try not to over-do it with patterns! Some patterns and trends go out of style ya know, and are not cool a year later. You want these to look FAB forever! Also, I do not think it is a good idea if one of you is wearing stripes and the other is wearing plaid. CLASH! Please avoid, trust me. Too many patterns everywhere can make the photo look too busy.

5. Consider layers, scarves, hats, sunglasses, etc. These can look cool and add personality. Just make sure they are you!

6. Consider props. Some can be kinda silly and over-done but sometimes really interesting and fun shots can come out of them! Think flowers, guitars, umbrella, puppy, balloons, etc.

7. Wear something comfortable! We may end up doing a lot of walking around from location to location.

Think of the shoot as more like a date with each other. I'm not going to make you stand around and strike a pose. Just try to relax, smile and laugh at each other. It will get easier as the shoot goes on.

Keep in mind the best time for shooting is when the sun is setting. This time gives soft light and will make you two glow. There are less harsh shadows and more romantic mood lighting.

Last but not least, if you have any ideas throw them out there! The photos are to reflect you two!

I get so many shots of them being goofy haha! But, they really appreciate photography as an art form and are so open to my (sometimes crazy and odd) photography ideas. Another COLD COLD COLD day for an engagement shoot! However, Jessica and Danny rocks this shoot!! Even facing the cold with no jackets for the pictures! We went to the windy Jacksonville Beach Pier. Beautiful colors everywhere! Jessica was glowing! These two are a lot of fun - we laughed at all kinds of stuff all morning - from the old man pointing out the obvious (that it was really cold) to Danny's watering eyes from trying not to squint in the photos.

I gave this session a slight vintage look and feel to the photos. I think it gave these photos a lot more personality and romantic feel, rather than just having "normal" photos of a couple at the pier.

Be looking out in a few months! I'm shooting Jessica and Danny's wedding as well!

Meet Sherrie and David! These photos may look bright and warm, but it was SOOO cold and windy that day! They were troopers though, even took on some photos under the huge shady Treaty Oak, downtown Jacksonville. They brought along their doggies that made for some cute family photos. Then we went over to the Friendship Fountain by the river. The water and sky were a perfect color that day! And Sherrie and David looked slick dressed in dark clothing against the bright blue Jacksonville Landing skyline!

You will be seeing photos of this loving couple again probably in April. These two lovebirds are getting married end of March, and yours truely is shooting their wedding!

Polaroid and Lady GaGa will reintroduce its instant film and cameras

Lady GaGa has signed a multi-year deal to be the creative director of a specialty line of Polaroid products. What a smart move Polaroid! She will def breathe new life back into the classic brand!

The move is part of a major overhaul for Polaroid, which saw its iconic instant film and cameras eclipsed by digital photos. The firm was bought out of bankruptcy in May by two venture capital firms that want to reposition it as a licensing company which will put its name on everything from cameras to printers and TVs. Lady Gaga will be their creative director and develop a line of co-branded products.

An instant classic is back
Polaroid will reintroduce its instant film and cameras, which were discontinued in 2008. The PIC 1000 camera is a redesigned, modern version of the old OneStep camera, and the Color 600 Instant Film will work with both new and old models.

"We know instant film won't be the savior for the company, but it's important to bring back the old classic," said Pollock, the CEO of PLR. "Our customers unequivocally want this experience back, especially the art and fashion communities."

Polaroid is also rolling out a portable printer, the "ZINK" (zero ink) printer which uses special paper that doesn't use ink or toner. It's also introducing LCD 1080p TVs in three sizes: 42", 52" and 65", as well as a Web-based photo and video sharing service called the Polaroid Studio.
By the end of 2010, Polaroid claims it will have $1 billion of retail merchandise on store shelves. The company said it expects to make $600 million in retail sales this year, and more than $3 billion over the next five years.
